The list that was never checked against the shelf
VEILOS grades its own health in the open, and the last release replaced a fragile way of finding those health verdicts with a written list of them. This release found the flaw in that: the list was checked against the graders and the graders were checked against the list, but nothing ever checked the list against the health report itself. A list that is simply too short passes both of those checks perfectly. The report carries twenty-two pieces of information and the list named four of them. The one that mattered says whether this server can still merge a write that arrives at the same moment as someone else's — when it cannot, the next such write is discarded rather than combined. That is the warning that comes BEFORE memory is lost, where the two verdicts wired up last time only speak AFTER, and it was published on the public health page with nobody reading it. It reports healthy today and has throughout. Every piece of the health report is now accounted for, the accounting is taken from the report itself rather than from a list someone has to remember to update, and anything unaccounted for takes the grade down until it is explained. The new warning is an advisory rather than an outage, because it clears itself on the next successful write and nobody has ever seen it happen — a siren nobody has calibrated is one people learn to sleep through.
